2020 is a project which began in 2003 by Vali Chincisan, Vlad Nanca, Stefan Tiron and Kate Smith which consisted in a series of initiatives meant to support the creation of a new arts scene in Romania. The most important activities were the ‘incepem’ mailing list (still active and a very important communication tool of the Romanian contemporary art scene), the 2020 home gallery, the Romanian Stencil Archive and the ‘incepem’ fanzine. All of these projects are reflected in the pages of our website. An important purpose of our group was to pass on the idea that with a bit of effort big ideas could be put into practice and the availability of funds would never be an issue if there was will for art practice. Our hope was for our approach to be an inspiration for other people and to set example for a positive attitude. 5 years after we started most of us are focusing on other, personal projects but we have never forgotten our goal. We feel that the scene is today more active, diverse and that perhaps other people are working towards our goal without us or them stating or being aware of it. At the moment our only objective related to 2020.ro is to extend our resources and reviews pages and we appreciate any contributions.
